SEO For Driveway And Patio Contractors UK: Winning The High-Value Jobs (2026)
A driveway is one of the biggest things a homeowner buys that is not a car or a kitchen. They research it for weeks, they get three or four quotes, and they judge almost entirely on photos and reviews.
That makes this trade different from emergency work, and it means the businesses that win are not always the cheapest. They are the ones who look most convincing online.
Customers here are slow and cautious
Nobody rings a driveway company the moment they think about it. They browse, they look at other people's driveways, they work out what they want, then they start enquiring.
Two things follow from that.
First, you need to be findable during the browsing phase, not just at the enquiry stage. Photos, ideas, price guides.
Second, the reputation side matters more than in most trades, because driveway work has a bad name. Everyone has heard a story about cowboys turning up unannounced. You are overcoming that before you say a word.
Split your pages by surface, not by service
The highest value thing you can do on your site is stop having one page called "driveways".
People search by material. Block paving, resin bound, tarmac, gravel, imprinted concrete, Indian sandstone, porcelain patios. Someone searching "resin driveway cost" has already decided what they want and is much closer to booking than someone searching "driveway company".
One page per surface. What it is, what it costs per square metre, how long it lasts, maintenance, drainage considerations, and four photos of ones you have laid. That structure is covered properly in how to write service pages that rank.
Publish prices, or at least ranges
Driveway pricing is opaque and customers hate it. Every quote comes back different and they cannot tell why.
Being the company that explains it is a real advantage. Give a range per square metre for each surface, explain what pushes it up (excavation depth, disposal, drainage, edging, access), and give an example of a typical job with a real figure.
You will lose the people who wanted it done for nothing. Those were never your customers. Everyone else now trusts you more than the three companies who said "call for a free quote".
Photos are the whole sales process
More than almost any other trade, this is a visual purchase. Customers are imagining their own house.
Photograph every job. Before, during the dig, and after. Get the after shots in decent light with the cars moved. Show variety: different surfaces, different property styles, big and small.
Then use them everywhere. Service pages, Google Business Profile, a gallery on your site, and socials. A contractor with sixty good photos beats one with six, every time.
This is the trade where Meta ads actually work
Most trades waste money on Facebook and Instagram ads. Driveways and patios do not, because a before and after photo of a transformed frontage genuinely makes people think about their own.
Nobody wakes up wanting a new driveway. They see one and start wanting it. That is exactly what social ads do well, and it is the opposite of emergency trades. We covered when this works and when it burns money in Meta ads for trade businesses.
Handling the cowboy problem head on
Your website should address it directly. Show your business registration, your insurance, how long you have traded, your guarantee, and your reviews. Say plainly that you never cold call door to door.
That one line does more for trust than any amount of marketing copy, because every customer over fifty has been doorstepped by someone claiming to have leftover tarmac.
Seasonality
Work drops in deep winter and peaks from spring through autumn. That means your marketing needs to be in place by February at the latest, because rankings take months to move.
The quiet months are when you write the pages, take stock of your photos and fix your profile. The businesses still getting enquiries in January are the ones who did that work the previous autumn. Realistic timelines here.
If your work is better than your website suggests, we can sort that.
